A SON OF PLYMOUTH

Matthew Becker is proud to be born and bred in Plymouth where his dad worked in the Dockyard and later as a postman. He grew up in the city – except for a brief period with his family in Gibraltar – and went to Montpelier Primary and then Plymouth College. Matthew studied for his Law Degree at Bournemouth University in 1997 and his Legal Practice Course at Exeter in 1998, he joined another local firm to complete his Training Contract in 1998 qualifying in 2000 and joining Curtis the same year.

LANDLORDS AND TENANTS, EMPLOYMENT AND MATRIMONIAL

Matthew has experience in seemingly diverse areas – the precise and complex world of landlords and tenants, employment legislation and matrimonial cases. While they require different sets of legal skills, they all still need an ability to relate to people. The law regarding property has seen many changes – regarding deposits, new rules on unlawful eviction and leasehold legislation. On the matrimonial side of his work, Matthew needs to work closely with his clients to achieve the best possible outcome.

OUTSIDE THE LAW

Matthew has been acting since he was at school and loves appearing in musical theatre productions, including Brigadoon and Kiss Me Kate, and notably as the evil Jigger in Carousel and Wild Bill Hickock in Calamity Jane. He is particularly proud of his role in straight drama Humble Boy about strained family relationships in which he played an astrophysicist with autistic tendencies.
